Depart for Istanbul, Turkey.

Hos Geldiniz!  Welcome to Turkey!  Arrive in Istanbul.  Transfer to your hotel.

Istanbul

Today you will have a full day city tour of fascinating Istanbul.  First visit the Blue Mosque, famous for the blue Iznik tiles covering its interior.  Then visit St. Sophia Museum, a Byzantine Basilica famous for its restored frescoes.  Topkapi Palace, former home of the sultans, is next followed by a visit to the Grand Bazaar, the oldest and largest covered marketplace in the world, with more than 4000 shops from which to choose.

Istanbul - Ankara

In the morning, you will cross the Bosphorus to the Asian Side and continue to Ankara, the capital of Turkey.  You will visit the Anatolian Civilization Museum containing a rich collection of Hittite artifacts.

Ankara - Cappadocia

Drive to Cappadocia, with its eerily-shaped lunar landscape caused by the erosion of a volcanic rock valley.  En route, stop at an ancient caravansary and then visit the labyrinthine tunnels of the underground city of Kaymakli.  This city descends 14 stories into the ground and contains chapels, kitchens, living quarters and wine cellars.

Cappadocia

You will visit Urgup, Goreme and picturesque Zelve, with its churches and chapels carved into the rock.  Zelve is famous for its "fairy chimneys," volcanic formations that dot the landscape and which serve as a natural residence to some of the local inhabitants.

7 Cappadocia - Antalya

Drive to Antalya on Turkey's Mediterranean coast.  En route, stop in the holy city of Konya, an ancient Iconium, and home of the Sufi Mystic, Mevlana Rumi.  Visit the Whirling Dervishes Museum.

8 Antalya

You will have a half-day of touring visiting the ruins of Perge, with its grand colonnaded avenues, followed by the award-winning Antaly Museum.  The afternoon is free to explore Antalya on your own.

9 Antalya - Pamukkale

Today you will drive to Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa town destroyed by earthquakes.  Continue to Pamukkale, an incredible natural wonder with its shining white, fairy tale waterfalls and shallow pools.

10 Pumukkale - Kusadasi

In the morning, visit the Greco-Roman city of Aphrodisias, devoted to the goddess of love, which flourished in the 1st Century B.C.  It is one of Turkey's newest excavations.  Continue to Kusadasi, a popular Aegean resort town.

11 Kusadasi

Spend a half-day exploring the jewel of Turkey's ancient past, the ruins of Ephesus.  Archaeological excavations begun in 1869 have uncovered well-preserved main streets, squares, temples, theaters and houses.  You will visit the Great Amphitheater, the Marble Way and the Library of Celsus.  Visit the Selcuk Museum.  The afternoon is free to explore Kusadasi on your own.

12 Kusadasi - Canakkale

Drive along the Aegean Coast for a visit to the ruins of Pergamum, famous for the work of the physician, Galen, and the Asclepion.  Continue to legendary Troy, whose battles were immortalized in Homer's Iliad.

Canakkale - Istanbul

Cross the Dardanelles, the Hellespont of old, and the site of fierce battles during World War I.  Continue to Istanbul.  You will have the evening at leisure.
