Day | Itinerary |
1 | USA - Shanghai Our flight departs from the USA bound for Shanghai. Spend the night aboard as we cross the Pacific. |
2 | Arrive Shanghai Evening arrival at Shanghai. Entering the city, we are amazed by the sheer number of people as Shanghai is indeed China's most populous city. |
3 | Shanghai Today's sightseeing includes the Shanghai Museum, Yu Garden and its neighboring Bazaar, the Bund and Nanjing Road. |
4 | Rise early this morning as we embark on a brief city tour of Shanghai, China's largest metropolis and the cosmopolitan center of business. Later today we fly either to Yichang or Wuhan where we board our motorcoach that takes us to the docks where our cruise ship awaits. |
5 | We spend the morning viewing the construction of the Three Gorges Dam being built for flood control and power generation. Re-board and sail through the most treasured scenery on the Yangtze, the Three Gorges. We pass through the Three Gorges shiplocks and sail through Xiling Gorge. |
6 | Depending on river conditions, our shore excursion is either at the Daning River or at Shengnong Stream. Board small motorized sampans to access the tributary of the Yangtze. Return to the ship in the afternoon as our vessel passes through the narrow meandering passages of the Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge. |
7 | Again dependent on river conditions, the shore excursion today is either at the ghost city of Fengdu or at Wanxian, a mountainous town situated on a lush and picturesque site, famous for its silk weaving factories. |
| 8 | Yangtze Cruise - Chongqing - Beijing The Grand Yangtze River cruise comes to an end with our arrival at Chongqing, China's largest municipality. Here we visit the city's Panda Zoo and enjoy a lunch of local spicy Sichuan cuisine. We depart by air later for China's capital city of Beijing. |
| 9 | Beijing, CHINA China's political center is home to over 10 million people. Beijing was recently selected as the site of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Today's tour takes us to Tiananmen Square (Gate of Heavenly Peace) and the Summer Palace, a place of rest and recreation for the emperors and their royal families. We also visit the Forbidden City, so named because commoners were not allowed entrance within its gates. |
| 10 | Beijing, CHINA Built to protect its people from northern marauders, the Great Wall snakes its way thousands of miles across Northern China and is visible even from the moon. This morning we spend time walking atop this man-made wonder of the world, descending to visit the Ming Tomb Museum. Tonight we savor a taste of traditional Peking Duck. |
11 | Beijing - U.S.A. The morning is free at leisure until we board our international homebound flight and bid a fond farewell to this ancient land. |
