USABarcelona, SPAIN

Overnight flight to Barcelona, Spain.

Arrive in Barcelona, SPAIN

In the morning, we arrive in Barcelona, Spain’s second-largest city and the

host of the Olympic Games of 1992.  After lunch, we take an excursion to

Monjuich Hill for a panoramic view of the city, harbor and Olympic stadium.

Barcelona - Valencia, SPAIN

Sightseeing features the Columbus Monument, elegant tree-lined Ramblas, historic Gothic Quarter with Cathedral.  Then, drive along the coastline to Valencia, once a royal capital and now a sunny garden city surrounded by

orange groves.  Orientation start out with a delightful drive past landmarks

such as the Town Hall, La Seo Cathedral, and the massive gateway towers

of Serranos and Quart.

Valencia – Granada, SPAIN

Further along the coastline to Alicante, and then inland towards the mountains.  A characteristic landscapes finally leads to the splendors of Granada.  An optional Flamenco folklore show can be arranged.

Granada – Costa del Sol – Algeciras, SPAIN

Savor Granada’s main attraction, the Alhambra, a mighty yet graceful

citadel begun by the 13th–Century ruler Al Ahamar.  Also amble through the exotic Water Gardens of the Generalife.  Then, a short drive down to the elegant Costa del Sol for a lunchtime break at sandy beaches.

Afternoon, a scenic drive to the Bay of Algeciras.  The vistas of the Rock of

Gibraltar are spectacular!  You may want to join an optional excursion to

the rock fortress of Gibraltar, in British hands since 1704.

Algeciras – Tangier, MOROCCO

Board your ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa.  Then, forward

to Tangier, Pearl of Mediterranean Sea. Visit colorful Grand Socco market before going to Cape Spartel for a spectacular view of the ocean.

7 Tangier – Seville, SPAIN

Board your ferry for the trip back across the Straits to Europe.  Through the sunny sherry wine region to vibrant, festive Seville.  Admire the pools

and fountains of Maria Luisa Park.  Drive to the Gold Tower on the Guadalquivir River, and the fine Baroque building which is now the

university but used to be the tobacco factory of Carmen fame.  Visit the

Cathedral with Columbus’ tomb, the world’s biggest Gothic edifice, and

finally stroll through the narrow lanes of the charming Santa Cruz
Quarter.

8 Seville – Lisbon, PORTUGAL

Leave the capital of Andalusia heading northwest to cross the border.  Next

stop is at Elvas, noted for a 16th-century aqueduct that still supplies this

market town with water.  Late afternoon arrival in the Portuguese capital –

Lisbon.

9 Lisbon, PORTUGAL

Lisbon was the center of Europe’s longest-lived overseas empire.  Morning sightseeing includes two Manueline jewels: Belem Tower, guiding the estuary of the Tagus River and Jeronimos Monastery with the tomb of Vasco da Gama.  Then enjoy a walk through the cobbled alleys of Alfama

before taking an excursion to Cascais fishing village to sample delicious

seafood.  Later, a short drive to Cabo da Roca, West end of Europe.

10 Lisbon – Fatima – Salamanca, SPAIN

A comfortable, new highway leads into the stream of pilgrims from all over

the world as you visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fatima.

 Later, we drive through the majestic scenery of mountain range to

Salamanca, whose Baroque Plaza Mayor is one of the country’s grandest squares.

11 Salamanca – Avila – Segovia – Madrid, SPAIN

A day in beautiful Castile.  First is walled and turreted Avila, where St.

Theresa founded the Order of Carmelites.  A short drive to Segovia, famous

for its Alcazar and the 2000-year-old Roman aqueduct.  Overnight in Madrid, the Spanish capital.

12 Madrid, SPAIN

Morning sightseeing takes you to the Plaza Espana with its monument to

 Cervantes, the Parliament and Royal Palace.  Then the highlight : a visit to the palatial Prado Museum with its priceless art treasures.

Madrid, SPAINU.S.A

After breakfast, we will transfer to the airport for our return flight to U.S.A.
